A Bears Fan’s Reaction to the Bears Win - Week 5
BEAR DOWN BABY! The Chicago Bears finally get a win. Should be 2-3 on the season instead of 1-4 but I’ll take it. The team played amazing. Our offense exploded and destroyed the Commanders scoring 40 points. The defense got five sacks on the day. Wide receiver D.J. Moore and quarterback Justin Fields played amazing, nearly throwing for 300 yards two weeks straight. I am about to give my best reaction of the season. Bears fans, here we go!
Offense
Fields had an amazing day. He threw for 282 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. He made play, after play, after play. This was another amazing performance from him after his amazing play last week in that unfortunate loss.
Running back Khalil Herbert led the way with 76 rushing yards but had to remain off the field after an ankle injury he suffered on a passing play. Looked pretty gruesome but nothing serious thankfully.
Moore played amazing yesterday. He was a one man wrecking crew. He amassed 230 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He nearly broke WR Alshon Jeffery’s record of 249 yards in a single game. Tight end Cole Kmet was also a solid contributor. He had 42 receiving yards and a touchdown in a solid performance. Other than those two, other than two catches from TE Robert Tonyan, there were no other receivers that did anything for the game.
The offensive line looked amazing when left guard Teven Jenkins was in the game. There was a lot of rotation that resulted in some sacks on Fields here and there but it was perfect when Jenkins was on the field. Right tackle Darnell Wright played well for the day, his biggest highlight was running over a defender on a QB run play from Fields. Right Guard Nate Davis played amazing, showcasing why Ryan Poles brought him in.
Defense
The passing defense wasn’t that great though. It allowed QB Sam Howell to nearly throw for 400 yards in the game. It also allowed 20 points even though the run defense was keeping them in check and the defensive line got five sacks. Howell also was able to avoid more sacks because apparently he’s a lizardman or something. He kept avoiding sack after sack until we eventually got him. What did we have reverse pine tar on our gloves that prevented us from sacking him.
We had multiple contributors that sacked Howell. Defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, linebacker T.J. Edwards, cornerback Greg Stroman Jr, DE DeMarcus Walker, and DE Rasheem Green each had one sack on the day. Stroman Jr. also had an interception on Howell in a game where he was everywhere. He contributed towards the pass rush, passing defense, and solid tackling.
This was just a smash-mouth performance from the Bears as a whole. I cannot wait to see what we do next. For the next three weeks, we are facing teams that either have a great offense but their defense can’t stop anything, or a team with a bad defense and subpar offense. In Week 6, we take on the Minnesota Vikings.
