A Bears Fan’s Late Reaction to the Bears Loss-Week 6

Sorry about being late for this article. Midterms are stacking up, homework etc. On top of all that quarterback Justin Fields is hurt and QB Tyson Bagent is likely to play at least the next game. I finally got to write a good article about the Bears then last Sunday happened. I have my somewhat late reaction to that embarrassing 19-13 lost to the Minnesota Vikings. Here we go!

Offense

It seems we reverted back to our Week 3 form. Fields looked awful, only throwing for 58 yards and an interception. Bagent came in relief for Fields due to a thumb injury. He looked okay I guess until he underthrew for an interception. He had 83 passing yards. Both QBs combined for over 100 yards.

The running game was decent. Running back D’Onta Foreman had 65 yards on the ground. The lone score from the offense came off of a two yard touchdown run from Bagent.

The receivers didn’t really get much action against Minnesota. Wide receiver D.J. Moore had two catches for 51 yards. WR Darnell Mooney had two catches for 48 yards and that was about it.

Right guard Nate Davis also is likely out for at least the next game with an ankle injury. Another injury to an already battered offensive line. Do we practice on MetLife Stadium turf or something? Why are we always losing our starting offensive linemen during the week?

Defense

The defense actually managed to stop the Vikings for most of the game. They held QB Kirk Cousins to 181 yards and only one touchdown. They shut down the Vikings rushing attack with the exception of RB Alexander Mattison who ran for 44 yards.

The defense put some pressure on Cousins and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds nearly came away with an interception but it was ruled a fumble so it took away that stat from him. LB T.J. Edwards had a sack on Cousins. Meanwhile, defensive end DeMarcus Walker and safety Jaquan Brisker each combined for a sack on Cousins, totaling two sacks for the Bears defense.

Final THoughts

Once Bagent came in the momentum changed. The throws came out much quicker, they looked more polished. Almost reminicent of when QB Andy Dalton or QB Nick Foles came in as a backup under former coach Matt Nagy. When the backups came in, the offense performed and looked more polished.

Does that mean that I want Bagent starting permanently? No, unless we somehow turn into a top five offense in the league. The odds of that happening are slim to none. I like Bagent, I like what he did in the preseason. But the overhyping of him needs to stop. Fields has one last year to prove to me he’s the guy. If he continues to look bad, not throw to wide open receivers, have trouble reading defenses, then he’s done in Chicago in my opinion. On a side note, here’s Bagent rapping Eminem’s verse of the song “Forever” in a bar that, is surprisingly good.
