ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN (PSF) - Former North Carolina guard Caleb Love has announced he has transferred to the University of Michigan, joining Head Coach Juwan Howard and the Wolverines next season. Love, who struggled with the Tar Heels this season, is looking to revive his college career.

The North Carolina Tar Heels had high expectations coming into the 2022-23 season, considering they made a run to the National Championship game in the previous season as a #8 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Love boosted his draft stock with a 30 point performance against UCLA in the sweet 16 and a 28 point game against Duke in the Final 4. North Carolina lost in the championship game to Kansas (72-69).

After Love’s performances in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, he still decided to keep his college eligibility and stayed at North Carolina for another year, as did the rest of the team. They were ranked #1 in the Pre-season top 25. North Carolina’s goal was to make it back to the tournament and redeem their loss.

During the 2023 season, North Carolina couldn’t get a rhythm and struggled to close out games. The team went 20-13 overall with an 11-9 conference record. They also lost in the ACC Tournament, not securing a guaranteed ticket to the NCAA Tournament. The selection committee did not give the Tar Heels a bid, making North Carolina the first team ranked #1 in the pre-season rankings to miss the NCAA Tournament.

This season was a massive disappointment for North Carolina and the same is to say for Caleb Love, who was inconsistent following his year as the clutch factor for the team. Love will now look to secure a Big 10 title with Michigan, joining Alabama’s Nimari Burnett and Seton Hall’s Tray Jackson out of the transfer portal.
