HOUSTON, TEXAS (PSF) - Former Baylor guard and 4-star recruit L.J Cryer has transferred to Houston, joining Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and the Cougars next season. Cryer, who averaged 15 points for Baylor last season is looking for a fresh start after 3 seasons with the program.

Baylor as a program struggled in the 2023 season, battling injuries and dealing with inconsistent lineups for the majority. Despite their struggles, Baylor still managed to go 23-11 overall with an 11-7 conference record. The Bears were given a #3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and lost in the round of 32 to Creighton (85-76). Cryer dropped 30 points in this game on 13-22 from the field.

While Baylor as a team struggled, Cryer was not one of those struggles. Cryer was a sniper from deep all season, averaging 41.5 percent from 3 on 6.2 attempts per game while shooting just under 90 percent from the free throw line. Cryer was also one of only 42 division 1 players to make 80 3 pointers this season.

Even though Cryerโ€™s efficiency numbers were off the charts, he did battle through injuries and was only the third highest in usage rate on the team (20.3%). At Houston, Cryer looks to recover the role Marcus Sasser had at Houston and be able to play both guard positions.

Due to top-30 freshman Miro Little signing on with Baylor for next season, Cryerโ€™s path to a lead guard role was looking slim. Marcus Sasserโ€™s departure gives Cryer the keys to a lead guard role and an opportunity to become Houstonโ€™s new star.
