Lane KIffin Gets Excited About QB Room
Oxford, Mississippi (PSF) - Exciting news for Ole Miss football. The team has opened practice with a strong quarterback group, which includes last year’s starter, Jaxon Dart, and two new additions, Spencer Sanders and Walker Howard. Sanders, who had an impressive career Oklahoma State with a 31-12 record as a starter, led the Big 12 conference in total yards in 2021. However, he was limited by a shoulder injury last season. On the other hand, Howard, a former five-star prospect, redshirted his only season at LSU.
During his news conference, Head Coach Lane Kiffin mentioned that all the quarterbacks practiced and rotated during the session. He emphasized that the competition would be intense and didn’t provide a specific timeline for making a decision on the starting quarterback. Kiffin praised Dart’s performance, stating that he has improved significantly since last season and looked good during practice.
Kiffin expressed his satisfaction with the depth and quality of the quarterback group, which is different from the previous season. With two returning starting quarterbacks and a highly touted recruit, the team has plenty of talent to evaluate. Kiffin highlighted timing, accuracy, and decision-making as the key factors in the quarterback evaluation process. The coaching staff will have the spring and fall seasons to observe and assess the players before making a final decision.
Last season, Ole Miss had a strong start with a 7-0 record before struggling in the final stretch, losing four of their last five games. They ended the season with a 17 point loss to Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl. The team will begin the upcoming season by hosting Mercer on September 2nd.
