Big 12 Post Week 5 Power Rankings

1. Oklahoma State

OSU got the best of the season for the entire conference by going on the road and winning at Baylor. They are the clear favorite to win the conference and will be a tough opponent for anybody. They face Tech this week, but the potential for a letdown or look ahead to TCU is possible.  

2. Kansas State

The Wildcats still have the best teams that have a loss with their road win in Norman, although OU doesn’t look as good as was thought to begin the season. Adrian Martinez is playing well, rushing the ball for 148 and 171 yards the past two weeks, and he is limiting his mistakes.

3. Baylor
Baylor did get a road win over Iowa State before losing at home to Oklahoma State, which is why I still have them highly ranked. Baylor gets a bye this week and will go back on the road at Morgantown the following week and will likely need to win out to make it back to Arlington.

4. Kansas
The Jayhawks were limited offensively at home to Iowa State, but the defense stepped up and got the win to stay undefeated. I have them ahead of TCU due to having one more win and having a conference road win. There is a lot of hype for this week’s game against TCU. Will see if they can keep up the momentum.

5. TCU

The Horned Frogs are riding high after steamrolling the Oklahoma defense. The offense with a new Max Duggan is electric. The defense still has a little something to prove, but they have the athletes to do it at Kansas this week.

6. Texas Tech

Tech has a turnover problem with nine interceptions and three lost fumbles a minus six ratio. They could be higher ranked, but it will limit their ceiling until this problem gets fixed. Tech beat Texas, which puts them above the Longhorns.

7. Texas

Texas had like two different teams when on the road vs at home. They beat WVU 38-20 and had a 28-0 lead in the 2nd quarter before WVU got on the board just before halftime. Quinn Ewers is coming back for OU-Texas so we will see how that affects them.

8. Iowa State

The defense played well and limited the Kansas offense to only 14 points in the game, but the offense was only able to get 11 points with three missed field goals. ISU already has two losses in the conference and welcomes a team that has found its groove in Kansas State. I don’t see things improving for Iowa State this week.

9. Oklahoma

The defensive woes continue for OU, and now they possibly don’t have their starting quarterback. The offense was having some trouble keeping up with TCU, but it looks like the only part of the team is functionally somewhat decently. Playing Texas can bring about anything in the games, but it will likely be a long day or season until Gabriel returns.

10. West Virginia

The Mountaineers have the same conference record as OU and ISU, but they looked to be the worst of the league. The game against Texas wasn’t competitive, and they did give up 55 points to Kansas. This was before the Jayhawk hype train started, but where will they get wins from? How much longer will Neal Brown be employed at WVU?
