Cam Johnson’s injury and how it could affect the Suns

During the Suns vs. Trail Blazers match-up on Friday, Cam Johnson left the court with an apparent injury after playing just five minutes with an apparent leg injury. Reports later revealed that he had torn his meniscus, requiring surgery. The timetable for Johnson’s return is still unclear and hasn’t been reported.

The Suns have had a great start to the season, sitting as the first seed in the Western Conference with a record of 7-2. Despite all the drama that surrounded the Suns during the off-season, they have shown that they are still a top team in the league. It’s important to remember that Jae Crowder is still a member of the Phoenix Suns and hasn’t been with the team and doesn’t plan to be.

With the absence of Crowder, the injury to Johnson is unfortunate for the Suns. Johnson was making great strides while replacing Jae Crowder in the Suns’ starting lineup. For the season, Johnson averages 13 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 43.1 percent from three.

In the game before Johnson’s injury, he put up 29 points and shot 7-for-11 from three vs. the Timberwolves. Johnson has been shooting lights out for the Suns and is a key piece for them to be successful. I don’t expect the Suns to fall off due to his injury. However, if he’s not around for playoff games, it may hurt them in the long run.

If Johnson cannot return this season, the Suns need to look to trade Crowder for somebody that can fill that starting role. Hopefully, Johnson will recover quickly and be back on the court soon!
