The lakers’ endgame
It is safe to say that the Los Angeles Lakers aren’t looking like contenders for the Larry O’Brien trophy this year.
Despite having four players on the NBA’s All-Time 75 List, the 17-time NBA champions currently rank ninth in the western conference with a horrendous 25-28 record.
More notably, the purple and gold rank a pathetic 27th in defensive rating, efficiency, and rebounds allowed.
Although their offense, led by LeBron James’ 29.1 points per game, is highly effective at times, the Lakers need to make a change – but they only have a week to do so.
Here are some trade options the Lakers are pursuing:
1. Trading Bazemore, Signing Millsap
Continuing the trend of obtaining veterans, the Lakers are reportedly in the market for Paul Millsap. The 6-foot-7 power forward would add minimal size and shooting to the Lakers’ bench, as the team is desperately looking for more physical forwards. However, unless the 36-year-old has a surprising late-career surge, the move is simply designed to add more size and a friendly face. If everything goes their way, the Lakers plan on buying out Millsap from the Brooklyn Nets and trading Kent Bazemore to make roster space.

2. Refueling the rocket: Eric Gordon
The Lakers and the Rockets have been in continuous trade talks for Russell Westbrook. Recently, however, the Lakers said they won’t attach a draft pick to the deal, making the Rockets lose interest in the 32-year-old.
But there is another name that sparks the interest for both teams: Eric Gordon
Gordon, another veteran, is having an amazing season shooting a career-high 45.2% from the three-point line while averaging 14.2 points per game. The former All-Star would add another consistent shooter and elite ball defender to complement James in the starting lineup.
Yet, Gordon’s accusation comes at an enormous price. The Lakers would have to take Gordon’s $12.3 million contract, despite already being over the salary cap. If the Rockets agree to trade Gordon, the Lakers would have to give up Talen Horton-Tucker and Kendrick Nunn.

3. Sparking the Magic: Terrence Ross
The Lakers have had a well-documented history of wanting to acquire Terrence Ross for several years. The 30-year-old is an athletic wing defender who could bring the defensive spark the Lakers have been looking for.
But there is a risk. Ross is having a mediocre season with the Orlando Magic, shooting 31% from the three-point range and 40.6% from the field. Consequently, the Magic are looking to trade Ross before the deadline, according to New York Times’ Marc Stein.
If all goes well for the Lakers, a trade for Talen Horton-Tucker and a third-round draft pick should be enough to get Ross.

The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 10.
