Shaedon Sharpe of the Portland Trail Blazers has decided to drop out of the All-Star weekend dunk contest to focus his attention on the second half of the season. The news came from Shams Charania, who tweeted the news out Tuesday night, a late move to the contest as All-star weekend is a week away.

Sharpe will be replaced by the Knicks’ young center Jericho Sims. The Knicks will have a chance to protect their dunk contest trophy from last year as reigning champ Obi Toppin won’t be competing, but Sims will have a chance to win the contest for New York once again.

Sims will join K.J. Martin of the Houston Rockets, Trey Murphy of the New Orleans Pelicans, and Mac McClung from the G-League. Sims will have a chance to show his athletic ability on national TV even though recently he has been given a starting spot because of the injured Mitchell Robinson. This may be an opportunity for Sims to gain eyes around the league.
