Knicks Finally Snap Losing Skid

Finally… the pain is over.

After a stretch of games where the Knicks were barely cracking 100 points at times, a stretch where the Knicks were only able to pull out 2 wins in 12 games, a stretch where the Knicks were supposed to trade Julius Randle, and a stretch where RJ Barrett got hurt, is finally over. I am not saying things won’t go terrible again, but to wake up in my bed in my college dorm after that last game knowing it was a win was a great feeling.

The Knicks have not really had anything go their way since Derrick Rose went down against the Houston Rockets back in December, and things could be heading in a meaningful direction again when both Rose and RJ Barrett are able to return in the coming weeks.

Against the Warriors on Thursday night, the Knicks seemed like they were going to drop off after Stephen Curry hit a 40 foot bomb in Evan Fournier’s uncontested face. At the half, I thought the game was going to be over, as the Knicks are one of the leagues worst 3rd quarter teams. Boy was I proven wrong. They opened up the 3rd quarter on a 11-0 run capped off by a big Kemba Walker 3 pointer, and that’s when the feeling of hope re-entered my heart, which was quickly ripped away again after Curry hit another 3 to finish off a 9-0 run from the Warriors.

The Knicks did not falter, as Julius Randle started hitting some of those 15 foot jumpers that we’ve been seeing as of recent, and the Knicks held a 6 point lead after the 3rd quarter.

In the 4th quarter, Alec Burks and Cam Reddish (finally) played together and helped the Knicks push their lead to as large as 13 through their relentless attacking at the basket before the Warriors made a late run. After a Reddish free throw to put the Knicks up 2 with 6 seconds left, the Warriors drew up an excellent play for Klay Thompson to score on Fournier that led to a wide open Klay jumper, and it somehow did not go in. Praise whoever, the Knicks got it done. With this win in mind, the Knicks should feel good about themselves, and use this feeling to chase wins here going forward.

They play Portland today at 5pm.
