Lakers Revenge Tour Continues

The Lakers are currently on a five game road trip that Anthony Davis described as a “get-back trip”. Davis said the Lakers are looking to get back at all these teams on this trip from their early season struggles. The Lakers handled the Bulls in their first game, and last night took care of the red hot Minnesota Timberwolves, 123 to 111.

The Timberwolves came out aggressive in the first half and led the Lakers by 10 at the end of two quarters. Mike Conley, Rudy Gobert, and Karl-Anthony Towns led the way in the first half. Conley and Gobert were running the pick and roll to perfection, which really opened up the game for the rest of the Timberwolves squad. Towns also did his thing and went on a stretch where he scored ten consecutive points in the second quarter. On the other hand, Anthony Edwards had a really tough game, he couldn’t find any rhythm and looked to be affected by the illness that has hit the Timberwolves team.

The first half looked rough for the Lakers. Their defense looked like a shell of itself, Lebron was taking bad and contested shots, and it seemed like everyone was just making lazy passes. However, the second half rolled around and the Lakers got back on track.

Anthony Davis led the way and had the Lakers playing great ball. It all started when Anthony Davis went down with an ankle injury that looked devastating for the Lakers season. Knowing Davis and his track record, Lakers fans held their breath as he fell to the ground grimacing in pain. However, Davis fought through the pain, got back on the court and dominated whoever was in front of them. Everyone started to pick it up on defense and followed Davis’ lead. Davis ended up finishing the game with 38 points, 17 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal while hobbling on one foot.

While Lebron James and D’Angelo Russell couldn’t find their shooting stroke, they did a great job at facilities for the others. Dennis Schröder, Rui Hachimura, and Jarred Vanderbilt provided great defense for the Lakers, which held the Wolves offense to below 50% shooting in the second half.

The Lakers are looking like a serious threat for other Western conference teams as they claim the 7th seed and are only one loss behind the 5th and 6th teams. As long as the Lakers can stay healthy, they have a great chance at making noise in the playoffs.
