The young, exciting core of the Memphis Grizzlies has taken the league by storm.

From Ja Morant and his nightly highlight reels to Jaren Jackson Jr. throwing a Beale Street block party every night, this core is a must-watch.

Teams are starting to view the Grizzlies as a legitimate threat following their dominant run during the 2021-22 season.

Memphis finished as the fifth seed in the West and went on to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs, where they secured their first playoff series victory since 2015.

This wouldn’t be the only situation where the Timberwolves were on the receiving end of Grizzlies history.

Morant and the Beale Street crew managed to tie the franchise’s longest winning streak (11) against the Timberwolves on January 14, 2022. Fast forward one year later, and the Grizzlies are three games away from tying that same record.

The Grizzlies currently sit as the second-best team in the league, with a record of 29-13. They are tied with the Denver Nuggets, led by reigning two-time MVP Nikola Jokic. To acquire this record, Memphis will have to defeat the Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Judging by the team’s recent performances, the road to this record does not seem out of reach at all. The Grizzlies won two out of those eight games without Morant, who recently returned to the lineup.

On January 8, Morant was listed on Sunday’s injury report due to some soreness he was experiencing in his right thigh. This was no problem for the Grizz. The entire team put on excellent performances during the absence of the one-time All-Star.

With a now fully healthy team, the Memphis Grizzlies are looking to make history…again.
