Update on Brittany Griner Case
Brittany Griner, WNBA star who plays for the Phoenix Mercury, is still detained in Russia for vape drug cartridges. The United State officials have stated that they were going to help Griner. US officials meet with a Russian legal expert on March 25,2022. Experts say that Brittany Griner could face five years in prison and sent to a labor camp. Ned Price, State department spokesman, stated that
"The consular officer who visited with Brittney Griner was able to verify that she is doing as well as can be expected under these very difficult circumstances.โ
Lisa Leslie, WNBA all star who played for Los Angles Sparks, appeared on the โI Am Athlete podcastโ and spoke on the Brittany Griner situation. It was told that WNBA players were not able to make a โbig fussโ about the situation. But on the podcast Lisa Leslie has to speak up about it she stated on the โI Am Athleteโ podcast "So, what we were told, and again, this is all sort of passed along through hearsay. What we were told was to not make a big fuss about it so they could not use her as a pawn, so to speak, in this situation in the war. So to make it like it's not that important, or don't make it like 'Free Brittney' and we start this campaign and it becomes something they can use. "That's what we were told. And I don't want to say who told us. I don't want to say who said that, but it's been kind of spreading through the women's basketball world."
WNBA commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, expressed to the league that they are in daily contact with Grinerโs agent, family, and her legal representatives. In hopes to get Brittany Griner out of Russia.
