The Triple Threader: SummerSlam Edition - Jul. 31, 2022
Welcome to the Triple Threader - SummerSlam edition. Here are the headlines for you to know from the crazy world of professional wrestling and the 35th annual event.
Bayley’s Back with Backup
Prior to the RAW Women’s Championship match between Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch, Bayley would come back to the fold to confront the former with a new stable featuring Io Sky (previously Io Shirai) and Dakota Kai. Bayley had been sidelined with a knee injury for a year. As for the title, the champion Belair picked up the win and retained the belt.
Double J’s Double Booked
It must be G, double O, D, to be J, E, double-F. Jeff Jarrett has been busy this weekend training for two big events. The WWE Hall-of-Famer is fresh off guest officiating an Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship match between the Street Profits and the Usos. The match saw the latter retaining the titles, and he’ll be teaming up with Jay Lethal to take on Ric Flair and Andrade El Idolo in “Ric Flair’s Last Match.” Look for a Triple Threader next week for the results of that event.
Roman Reigns Supreme in Chaotic Bout
To say this battle was brutal would be putting it mildly. Roman Reigns retains the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar in a Last Man Standing match that turned nearly post-apocalyptic. Tables, stairs, and yes, a tractor that Lesnar brought to (and tipped over) the ring were utilized in the fight. After interferences from The Usos, Paul Heyman, and Theory, it took a burial of the broken announcers’ table and other scattered debris to put down the Beast finally.
