The Triple Threader - Oct. 2, 2023
Welcome to the Triple Threader, covering the three stories from the world of professional wrestling.
It’s Official!
Jade Cargill officially signed with WWE last Tuesday, as first reported by ESPN. The former champion in AEW was last reported training in the WWE Performance Center in Orlando. “I wanted to come here and do something that nobody else can do,” Cargill says to ESPN. As of this writing, it remains to be seen where, when, and how she will debut in WWE.
No Mercy Results
NXT’s premium events have the reputation of being exciting to watch, and No Mercy was no different. Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker kicked off the show in brutal fashion, while two new champions were crowned. Trick Williams put away Dominik Mysterio to become the new North American Champion while Ilja Dragunov defeated Carmelo Hayes to become the brand new NXT Champion. In the main event, NXT Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and Tiffany Stratton were engaged in a vicious Extreme Rules match for the title. While the challenger showed excellent resolve, it was Big Time Becks who came up with the big time hit by way of a Manhandle Slam on the steel chairs, thus earning her a pin and successful defense.
Everything has come to life
Following a wild TNT Championship 2-out-of-3 Falls match, Christian Cage, who successfully defended said title, Luchasaurus, and Nick Wayne, assaulted Darby Allin and the Icon Sting, when a vignette of an unknown figure appeared on the screen, gets in a muscle car and pulls up in the arena. Seconds later, the familiar “Metalingus” by Alter Bridge blares in the house, and that’s when the “Rated R Superstar” Adam Copeland (a.k.a. Edge) showed up to WrestleDream, shocking the crowd and fending off the fury of Cage, Lucha, and Wayne. “There’s just so many possibilities here, and for me, at this stage in my career, that is so enticing, that is so exciting,” the former World Champion and newest “All Elite” signee states. “It [felt like] this brand new thing that I always wanted to do…[and] 31 years in and to [still] feel that way? That’s a gift.”
