The Triple Threader - Feb. 5, 2024
Welcome to the Triple Threader, covering the three stories from the world of professional wrestling.
Trafficking Allegations Update
This past Thursday, John Laurinaitis issued a statement through his attorney on the sex trafficking lawsuit in which he and former WWE chairman Vince McMahon are listed as co-defendants. Edward Brennan, who is representing the former EVP, issued the following to Vice, “Mr. Laurinaitis denies the allegations in the misguided complaint and will be vigorously defending these charges in Court, not the media. Like the Plaintiff, Mr. Laurinaitis is a victim in this case, not a predator.”
Wrestling on Fire
This past Friday on SmackDown, in a stunning twist, women’s Royal Rumble winner Bayley chose Iyo Sky to face off for the WWE Women’s Title, and men’s Rumble winner Cody Rhodes sent the Rock to go one-on-one with Roman Reigns for the Undisputed crown at WrestleMania 40, the latter moment becoming unpopular as the Rock/Reigns face off video on WWE’s YouTube channel has almost climbed to 600,000 dislikes at the time of this writing. At NXT’s Vengance Day event, Ilja Dragunov beat Trick Williams to retain his NXT Championship, and Carmelo Hayes would betray and beat down the former challenger and longtime friend.
A Golden Farewell?
As Sting prepares to say his final goodbye to the sport of professional wrestling, he has one more chance to add a title to his collection as he and Darby Allin challenge “Absolute” Ricky Starks and Big Bill for the AEW World Tag Team Championship this Wednesday on Dynamite. Also, on that same show, Swerve Strickland and Hangman Adam Page square off for the right to challenge Samoa Joe for the AEW World Title at Revolution, the former promising “no interference” and “no excuses.”
