The British racing driver had signed a two-year contract with Mercedes last year but exercised a release clause allowing him to leave one year early. His announcement had a huge impact on motorsports fans, particularly fans of Carlos Sainz, the current driver for Ferrari alongside Charles Leclerc, who were hoping he would resign with Ferrari. Sainz’s future plans are still unknown; however, there are rumors that the Spanish driver will sign with Audi in 2026.

Hamilton shared an Instagram post expressing his gratitude for Mercedes and his excitement to fulfill his dream of “driving in Ferrari red”. During Hamilton’s 11-year run with Mercedes he managed to win six of his seven driver’s championships and contributed to eight consecutive constructors’ titles for the team.
