Mychal Thompson must be a proud father. To have all of your boys following in your footsteps has to be amazing. Let’s take a look into the Thompson brothers who have made their way into the sports world in some way, shape or form.
Mychel, Klay, and Trayce are three brothers who all excel in sports. Mychel, the oldest, played for Pepperdine University and was undrafted in the NBA but played five games with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2011-2012 season. He was on contract but the Cavs waived it. He became a free agent and signed with the Knicks. That contract was also put on waiver and he once again became a free agent.
He eventually went to the G-league as a guard and played from 2011-2017. His last team with the G-league was the Santa Cruz Warriors where he played with now NBA star Seth Curry. His brother happens to be Stephen Curry who plays with Mychel’s younger brother Klay but we will get to him next. It was obvious Mychel had aspirations of being a star in the NBA like his dad but he seems to have found his calling on the coaching/player development staff. How exciting it must be to work along his brother and still be in the game he loves.
In an interview after the Warriors beat the Celtics 103-90 in the NBA playoffs, Klay said his older brother told him, “Patience, patience. It’s going to a pay off.” Mychel told him this after feeling like he would go over a ledge because he wasn’t able to do anything. Klay had been out for two years with an ACL tear and he was eager to get back out there with his team and win. In January 2022, he was able to finally join his team and it wasn’t a instant bounce back but when Klay finally got into the rhythm, it was liking seeing pre Klay before the injury. Mychel was there every step of the way to help his brother and the bond is strong between these two. Next season should be a blast to watch. Of course Trayce isn’t far behind when it comes to brotherly love. He was there celebrating with Klay after the Championship and you love to see it.
Trayce Thompson didn’t follow in his brothers footsteps as far as basketball but the younger Thompson is a baseball outfielder with the Los Angeles Dodgers and you will catch Mychel and Klay rooting him on. Just recently he had an RBI double against the Giants which made the lead for the Dodgers 7-4 and Klay could be seen celebrating with a cold one in his hand. Trayce has made a name for himself and it has to be a great feeling to do a sport he loves and thrives in. Mychal can only be a happy Father knowing that what he instilled in his sons has come to light and what they will possibly instill in their children as well will make them successful in whatever they do.
