The Changes the UFC Made Ahead of UFC 300
This week has been quite the busy one for UFC President, Dana White. The UFC has announced several changes that will be made both this weekend for UFC 300, as well as for future events. Here are all the changes that were announced this week.
custom fight shorts for ufc 300 fighters
It wan announced earlier this week that Zhang Weili, Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway and Alex Pereira had custom shorts designed for them, which will be worn at UFC 300. Although the UFC has made custom colors for fighters like Sean OβMalley, who was given pink shorts for his UFC 299 bout against Marlon βChitoβ Vera. However, there has never been graphic designs given to fighters before this. The reception of these shorts sent UFC fans into a frenzy, wondering why this has never been done before. Although this is a relatively minor detail, it certainly provides a special touch for this landmark event.
new gloves
Although these specific gloves will not be used for UFC 300, they were announced earlier this week. There have been many critiques of the design of UFC gloves for quite some time. This stemmed from the fact that the design promoted an open hand, which can lead to more eye pokes. These gloves have longer finger holes, which promote a closed fist, effectively reducing the number of eye pokes that could potentially happen. These gloves will debut at UFC 302 on June 1st.
octagon canvas color
Dana White announced during the UFC 300 press conference that the octagon color would in fact be blue for Saturday night. White did not provide any further description of the canvas, it seemed as if it would be different than usual. Although the typical UFC canvas has a slightly blue color, it will be interesting to see if it will be royal blue, which is reminiscent of the WEC canvas.
increased bonus amount for ufc 300
During the UFC 300 press conference, Dana White was asked if there would be an increased bonus amount for UFC 300. After asking how much the bonus would be, many fighters on the stage started suggesting amounts that ranged from $100,000-$300,000. Dana White simply said β$300,000, done.β This sent the entire conference into a frenzy, with βDanaβ chants coming from the crowd. This will incentivize each fighter on the card to perform at their very best in hopes of earning the largest performance bonus in UFC history.
mark coleman to wrap belt around bmf champion
Dana White was asked during the UFC 300 press conference if former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Mark Coleman, would be willing to wrap the belt around the winner of the BMF title bout between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway. Much like how White responded to the increased bonus, White simply said βdone.β This is very noble of White, for the fact that Coleman was recently released from the hospital after saving his parents from a house fire, where Coleman was subject to smoke inhalation. This also received a huge ovation from the crowd in attendance, especially based on what Coleman has gone through as of late.
