There was a bit of confusion involving the co-main event for UFC 299, which takes place March 9th in Miami. Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion, Dustin Poirier is taking on the eleventh ranked lightweight, Benoit Saint Denis in a fight that many are hyping up as a certified war.

However, it was announced Thursday morning via Poirier’s X account that his fight was off but he was still trying to find a replacement for the same fight card.

Then, just hours later, Poirier had then said via X that the fight was back on and had to do with complications in contacting his management and that it was a misunderstanding.

It is common for the UFC to announce upcoming fights despite the fact that bout agreements have not been signed. This situation was certainly more complicated for the fact that the communication between Poirier and his management was not consistent, and it ended up coming back to hurt the promotion.

This secures the fact that UFC 299 is an incredibly stacked card that rivals the even more hyped up UFC 300 on April 13. This fight between Poirier and Saint Denis is one that has one of two potential outcomes: Saint Denis breaks through as a legitimate title contender, or Poirier is able to silence the doubters that felt he was over the hill after his head kick loss to Justin Gaethje in July 2023.

Saint Denis, on the other hand is coming off a highlight reel head kick over another popular lightweight prospect, Matt Frevola. This was on brand for Saint Denis, as he has finished every single one of the 13 opponents he has beat.
