Angel Reese for ROTY
If you don’t know already, Angel Reese, a newly drafted forward to the Chicago Sky, had just topped the WNBA’s power rankings for Rookie of the Year. After a series of well-rounded performances, she finds herself atop Iowa guard and NCAA sensation Caitlyn Clark.
For some background, she had two college stints. Beginning at Maryland under coach Brenda Frese and finishing her collegiate career as an NCAA champion at LSU. She currently leads all SEC players in scoring after averaging over fourteen points in two years. Reese won every award under the sun, attaining an NCAA Tourney MOP, and SEC POY, along with all-region honors. To add to it her Maryland record was a combined 49-12 over two years. Her LSU stint; 65-8.
This brings us to her Professional career. The Chicago Sky drafted her in the late lottery at pick 7. She practically picked up where she left off, averaging a double-double gathering five rebounds and better yet five offensive rebounds. All the while tacking on two steals a game. Reese even reached double figures in eight of her last ten games. She sits at the top of CBS’ Rookie Power Rankings.
Her efficiency is her largest flaw. Not considered an offensive player, to say the least, but a fg% of 34% won't fly. Along with not being threatening with the 3-point shot her offensive package is quite limited. With that being said the Chicago Sky offense is still within the top ten. Placing eighth in ppg, and ninth in apg. Despite this they’ve gone four and within their first ten games.
