A Preview of Counter-Strike 2 at Esports World Cup 2024

The start of the season is less than a week away with the Esports World Cup 2024 being the first S-Tier event to occur after the player break. This will be the first iteration of the Esports World Cup which hopes to be a yearly event that holds a plethora of tournaments for a vast number of games in the Esports scene.

The event will start with best of threes and the teams that lose will be put into a Last Chance Stage that will consists of best of ones with only one team coming out of the Last Chance Stage into the playoffs. JijieHao is the only team that is instantly put into the Last Chance Stage based on their rankings.

The first matches will start off with MOUZ vs Sashi, FaZe vs FlyQuest and G2 vs The MongolZ all starting at 7:30 AM EST on July 17.

Teams like M80, G2 and FURIA will be playing their first event with their brand-new rosters hoping to start the season off with a huge win against many of the top teams in the world. The favorites of the event are Team Spirit, MOUZ, Vitality, FaZe and Natus Vincere (NAVI). Some under the radar teams that could shock people are The MongolZ and Complexity who both won trophies in the past season. G2 will be the most interesting team to watch this event with their brand-new roster that added players that gave fans concern with how the team will play most of the maps with the new additions playing positions that current members of the team already play.

The event will be a good gauge for these new rosters as eight of the top ten teams in the world will be attending with The MongolZ sitting at number 11 in the world at the moment of writing this. Astralis and Heroic are the two teams not attending that occupy the number eight and number ten spots in the HLTV world rankings.

This season will be extremely important for all teams competing no matter what level of play they are competing since this season will set up for the swap to the Valve Rankings which will determine the teams that get invited to events like majors and S-tier events.

This season will start with the Esports World Cup 2024 and end with the Shanghai Major in December of this year.
