According to Dan Hayes of the Athletic, the Minnesota Twins picked up Jorge Polanco's $10.5 million club option for the 2024 season on Thursday.

Despite missing significant time due to injuries in 2023, Polanco produced a solid .789 OPS with 14 home runs in 80 games (343 plate appearances) when healthy. Additionally, according to Baseball Savant, Polanco's sweet spot percentage of 39.6% was in the 94th percentile in the MLB. When healthy in 2022, Polanco showed his ability to get on base as he had a 14.4% walk rate, the top two percent in all of baseball.

While the Twins could be doing this to explore trading Polanco this offseason and give promising rookie Edouard Julien a chance to solidify second base for the organization, exercising the option seemed to be an easy decision for the AL Central champions. When healthy, Polanco's potential combination of power and his knack for getting on base makes him a valuable asset to the Twins' whether that be in the lineup or used for trades.
