Rainy Night For Reds

Over two hours of rain delays could not save the Cincinnati Reds from a loss in Baltimore, with a score of 10-3.

Pushed to 7:20 P.M Eastern Standard Time, the two teams battled each other. The Reds took the lead in the top of the first, thanks to Spencer Steer driving in a run. In the bottom of the second, the rain became a nuisance for the Reds Pitcher Brandon Williamson as he began to lose command of his pitches, at one point requiring the ground crew to come out and clean up the mound. Even then, the command was lost as he gave a two-run single to Austin Hays.

In this commotion was Jordan Westburg’s first major league appearance was lost, and with a little up from the rain, he drew a walk to start his career. He even got his first run scored thanks to the previously mentioned double.

Then the rain came again. This time delaying the game for over two hours, not restarting until after 10:00 PM. Williamson had to be replaced with Fernando Cruz, and it wound up a sloppy inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, the rookie Westburg grounded to third baseman Elle De La Cruz who got the force out at second, but the second baseman Jonathan India threw wide to first, allowing two runs to score.

From there it was all Orioles. They scored three more in the fifth and seventh innings respectively putting their score up to ten, putting the game out of reach even with the Reds adding two runs in the sixth. All hitters for the Orioles managed reach base, including Aaron Hicks with three walks, and the rookie Westburg getting his first hit in the fifth.

Spencer Steer was the highlight for the Reds, going three for three with 3 RBIS in the losing effort.

After the game, the Orioles made a surprising announcement that due to the long rain delays, they were given a complimentary ticket to those who stuck around.

The two teams will look to battle it out in game two with hopefully clearer conditions.
