NY Mets: Jeff McNeil deserves to start for the NL All-Star team

Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets are currently the best team in the National League. A lot of the attention has gone to stars such as Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, and Edwin Diaz, but Jeff Mcneil cannot be overshadowed and left off of the National League All-Star team.

His presence in the lineup is huge for this team. This season McNeil is 2nd in the Majors for multi-hit games. This season the utility man is hitting .324, with a .375 OBP. In McNeil’s last 25 games he has been even better:

  •  .348 BA

  •  .378 OBP

  •  32 Hits

The ironic part is that he hasn’t been in the top five part of the lineup the majority of the season. He is often overlooked, but his numbers speak for themselves. He is a pure hitter.

On MLB.com McNeil is listed as a second baseman. Some favorites include Jazz Chisholm Jr. (MIA), and Nolan Gorman (STL), but McNeil's stats are much better than both of those players. Neither Chisholm Jr. or Gorman has a batting average above .255.

Although he’s got the best numbers, he may not receive enough fan votes to start because he’s often overshadowed. Numbers do not lie, and in this case, it’s obvious. Jeff McNeil is the best second baseman in the National League.
