MLB Reveals 2022 Postseason Schedule
In the blink of an eye, the 2022 postseason is right around the corner.
Major League Baseball has announced the postseason schedule as teams continue their postseason aspirations during the dog days of summer.
The postseason kicks off with the American League and National League Wild Card on October 7-9. The lockout pushed the regular season one week, creating a tight postseason window. According to Jeff Passan, travel days were eliminated to shorten the MLB calendar.
Games Four and Five of the Divisional Series and Games Five and Six of the Championship Series will be played on consecutive days. Passan points out the inconvenience for teams thousands of miles away from potential opponents.
ESPN will air the AL and NL Wild Card Series with no off days. FOX and FS1 will air the NLDS and NLCS. TBS will air the ALDS from October 11 through October 16 and ALCS from October 11 through October 17. TBS reached a $3.75 billion extension with MLB in 2020, having TV rights until 2028.
There will not be a World Series game on Sunday for the first time since 1990 as MLB wishes to avoid being on the air simultaneously with Sunday Night Football.
The first postseason with the new 12-team format will see the World Series beginning on October 28. A potential Game Seven of the World Series is slated for November 5, the latest calendar date for an MLB game in history. FOX will broadcast the World Series for the 23rd consecutive year with the addition of play-by-play announcer Joe Davis after Joe Buck’s departure to ESPN.
