George Springer Moves To Second All-Time In Leadoff Home Runs

In Sunday’s win against the Oakland Athletics, George Springer launched a leadoff home run, the 55th of his career and third of the season. This moved Springer into second all-time in leadoff home runs, passing Alfonso Soriano’s 54 career leadoff home runs. He only sits behind Rickey Henderson, who hit 81.

Springer has played for two franchises so far in his career, the Houston Astros and the Toronto Blue Jays. He holds the single-season leadoff home run record for both teams. In 2019, Springer hit 12 leadoff home runs for the Astros. Last season, he launched nine lead off home runs to secure the Blue Jays’ record. Springer is now 26 away from tying the record and 27 away from having the record all to himself. Currently 33 years old, George Springer still has time to become the record-holder if he keeps up his success setting the tone for his team’s offense.
