Who are the Best Free Agents this Summer: The ones you don’t know

in this column we’ll be staying away from giants like Mbappe and Pogba, as well as guys who've already moved, like Antonio Rudiger.

Dries Mertens (35), Napoli

Let’s be clear, Mertens is not a player with a lot of years left in the tank, but he still has tons of quality to offer as he is Napoli’s all-time top scorer and he could provide quality, depth, and knowledge to any side competing in Europe next season.

Axel Witsel (33), Dortmund

Witsel has potential to be the best free signing this summer. He’s got size, loads of quality and strength, and played in his fair share of huge games. Newcastle have been linked with him, but he could go anywhere, Witsel has the stamina and is still relatively young to make a difference in any league with any team in Europe he wants.

Ivan Perisic (33), Inter Milan

Perisic is said to have many potential suitors across Europe including many in England. Perisic is most certainly the most consistent player of the bunch and can operate out of any defensive or attacking position on the left side. His incredible off foot, decent pace, and admirable work ethic makes him a super attractive player to sign on a free transfer.

Jesse Lingard (29), Manchester United

Lingard is a player who I felt super sorry for after he was never loaned back to West Ham this season. He never quite got into the Red Devils squad and with managerial changes and another squad overhaul in the works Lingard seems primed for a move away from Old Trafford, and he has the résumé to prove that, when healthy, he has the potential to be a solid contributor for a Europa or Champions League squad, or be a star on a team on the brink of those competitions, like he was for West Ham in 2021.

Isco (30), Real Madrid

Isco is certainly the biggest name on this list, and with that comes the best ability. Isco, unfortunately has fallen of in Madrid over the past few years, especially since new boss Carlo Ancelotti has arrived. Isco, like many football (Soccer) fans should be praying for a move away from the Bernabéu this summer. His on ball quality and lack for creating chances could be of use to any team in Europe, and assuming he can stay healthy, a start of a second great career could be in his future.
