Top transfers of the summer (thus far)
Nunez to Liverpool: After a breakout season with Benfica, Darwin Nunez was linked with practically every top club in Europe. After rumors for weeks Nunez to Liverpool was finally confirmed on June 11.
Liverpool, who already had a legendary Uruguayan striker in Luis Suarez, seemed like the perfect for Nunez. Nunez will also have opportunities to play right away with star Sadio Mane leaving the club. There are also rumors about Mohamed Salah’s future as well, but nothing concrete yet. With Mane leaving, the ideal front three for Klopp’s side seems to be Diaz, Nunez, and Salah. On paper this seems like an amazing front three and only time will tell if it will be a success.
Haaland to Man City: Not much needs to be said about how great this transfer is. Haaland is always a guarantee for goals and with the quality City has going forward it will be an amazing attacking force to watch next season. With City and Liverpool both getting world class young strikers, it is safe to say the future of the Premier League is in safe hands.
Gravenberch to Bayern Munich: Gravenberch, a player who has gone under the radar as a top quality midfielder is once again great business for Bayern. Coming off a season in which Ajax won the Eredivisie and had a solid, yet underwhelming Champions League run, Gravenberch was at the heart of their success. While playing in 41 games and only notching eight goal contributions may seem like a poor season, Gravenberch is a player where stats do not tell the whole story. Gravenberch is a midfielder who can control the tempo of a game and be the catalyst to attacks. Only costing €35 million, Bayern Munich could have their next world class midfielder for an amazing price.
Tchouameni to Real Madrid: Like Nunez, Tchouameni was wanted by every top club. Signing for €80 million, the Frenchman becomes Real Madrid’s fourth most expensive signing ever. With players like Bale and Ronaldo alongside him on that list, Tchouameni has large shoes to fill. Bringing in Tchouameni completes a trio of talented youth midfielders. A few years ago it seemed like Real Madrid had no youth in their midfield with Modric, Casemiro, and Kross hitting their mid thirties. However, with Valverde, Camavinga, and now Tchouameni, Real Madrid have incredible depth and quality in their midfield.
In what has already been an exciting summer of transfers, there are still many stars who have yet to find new homes. Players such as Mane, Lewandowski, Pogba, and more have announced they are leaving their club, or in Lewandowski’s case want to leave their club, but are still looking for their ideal landing spot. Lewandowski is still fighting the Bayern board to convince them to sell him this summer, but the board has said they are not selling him. In what is probably just a sales tactic to get more money for the star striker, Barcelona and PSG seem to be the top candidates to land Lewandowski.
