On Wednesday, January 19th, registration for tickets to this year’s World Cup in Qatar began. With the first game set to kick off on November 21st, fans can apply for individual tickets as well as packages that allow them to follow their favorite team throughout four matches at four different venues.

Prices for this year's World Cup have increased since 2018’s tournament which was hosted in Russia. According to a Twitter post made by @FOXSoccer, tickets for the final are ranging from $604 to $1,600. This is significantly higher in comparison to the price of a ticket to the final in Russia ($1,100.) Although ticket registration has begun, only 13 nations out of the 32 have claimed their spot for the tournament. With qualifiers not set to conclude until the end of the intercontinental playoff games in June, many fans are still hesitant to purchase their tickets.

Fans are also hesitant to attend the World Cup due to the issues regarding migrant workers who constructed the stadiums in Qatar and the anti-homosexual laws in place in the host nation. Protests aren't just coming from fans as many national teams joined the human rights protests during the qualifying rounds. As the controversy continues, Nasser Al Khater, the chief executive of the tournament's organizing committee, promises that the host nation will be “tolerant” and “welcoming” to all fans.
