Pedro Neto: Wolves’ Bright Spot

WOLVERHAMPTON, U.K. - This is definitely not the start to the season that Wolves would have wanted. They lost Manager Julen Lopetegui right before the season started due to a difference in beliefs regarding transfers. Making matters worse were the departures Wolves suffered over the summer. The likes of Nathan Collins, Conor Coady, Raúl Jiménez, Adama Traoré and Matheus Nunes all left over the summer. So although the start of this season has been rough for Wolves, there is reason to believe it will turn around, and that reason is Pedro Neto.

So far this season, Neto has been directly involved in five of the six goals that the Wolves have scored. That means that Neto has been involved in a staggering 83 percent of Wolves’ goals in the Premier League. It doesn’t end there. Neto has 18 key passes (which is tied for the second most in the league), five goal-creating actions (tied for fourth most), 15 successful take-ons (third most) and 35 progressive carries (tied for third most).

Statistics aside, Neto is the creative lynchpin for Wolves. His passing ability and dribbling skills enable players like Hwang Hee-Chan to score. Without him, Wolves lack a creative presence in the center of the pitch.

Neto may not have had the best seasons before, but he seems to be growing into this Wolves side. If he can overcome his injury problems, he will be a key player not only this season but in the seasons to come for Wolves.
