Ole Out?
Current Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under heat, yet again, after a 4-2 defeat to Leicester City. Several fans are calling for the sacking of the manager, a popular go-to among football fans when their team isn’t playing up to par. Manchester United started the season off strong, with 4 wins and 1 draw through their first 5 Premier league games. However, things have taken a turn since. The reds are currently sitting with 2 losses to Aston Villa and Leicester City, with 1 draw against Everton through their last 3 games. On the Champions League front, they bounced back with a 2-1 win against Villarreal after an opening 2-1 loss to Young Boys. With a big midweek Champions League fixture against Atalanta in the midweek followed by a large Premier League fixture by Liverpool Ole’s career may be in danger without any positive results.
With the potential of a new managerial search for the red devils, let’s dive into some potential options. One large figure is Zinedine Zidane. The former Real Madrid player and manager is currently unsigned to any club. Having formerly worked with Ronaldo and Varane at Madrid, he would be coming in with prior knowledge and experience with some of the club’s bigger players. The only concern is Zidane may be holding out for the French National Team managerial position, not wanting to take on any club responsibilities.
Another potential option is Antonio Conte, former Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan head coach. Conte, just like Zidane is currently not under contract with any club. After having great success with Chelsea, Conte would be coming in with a high knowledge of the Premier League and a deep understating of what it takes to garner true success. The main issue with Conte is that he does not fit the general mold of most Man United managers.
There are several other managers the board could consider such as PSG’S Mauricio Pochettino, Ajax’s Erik Ten Hag, Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers and Brighton’s Graham Potter. While all of these managers not only have a track record of success, they are all currently doing very well at the helm of their respective clubs. The only concern with these coaches is that they are all under contract.
