manchester city remain premier league champions

Despite it being far from easy, Manchester City won the Premier League for the sixth time. This is the team’s second title in a row and was achieved by defeating Aston Villa with a nail-biting score of 3-2.

Liverpool’s chances of winning the title rose when Manchester City drew against West Ham last weekend. Klopp and his team did all they could and finished the season with a 2-1 victory, but unfortunately they missed the title by merely a point. In fact, this put an end to Liverpool potentially rewriting history, with the club winning both the League cup and the FA cup. Manchester City’s successful run is nowhere close to ending. Erling Haaland’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund over this summer might massively help the team.

In my opinion, it’s high time City got a pure striker. Ever since Aguero left the club, they have failed to lure any strikers in. In March, Josep ‘Pep” Guardiola, City’s manager, said, “We need a striker, I think the club is going to try, it hasn’t happened but in the end we adapt.”

Regardless of this, the team still managed to score a whopping 99 goals this season with major contributors such as Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez.

Erling Haaland signs for City

City’s run this season has been nothing but impressive with only losing three out of 38 games this season - twice against Tottenham and once against Crystal Palace. At one point in the season, they had a winning streak of 12 matches which really solidified them to be on top.

The real question is - Can Manchester City repeat this next season or will the genius Pep finally be overthrown? It’s hard to tell. Jack Grealish was signed by City at the beginning of the season for 100 million pounds, but the youngster did not truly perform to his potential. It won’t be a surprise if next season Jack Grealish and Haaland become an unstoppable duo up front.
