La Liga Matchday 26: Sevilla step up, Atletico and Real win, Barcelona scores 4
What an exciting set of games we had this weekend for the Match day 26 of the La Liga. The first game this weekend was a 3-0 win from Levante against Elche, Luis Morales 37’, Jorge de Frutos 67’, and Gonzalo Melero 90’ were the goal scorers.
On Saturday 4 games were played, starting with Valencia vs Mallorca which ended with a Valencia win after an early goal by Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista 4’. The next game in line was a tie between Getafe and Alaves, Getafe played with 10 man since the 32nd minute and Alaves goal scorers were Gonzalo Escalante 46’ and Edgar Mendez. Getafe tied the game with a brace from Turkish midfielder Ernes Unal 55’, 72’.
After this tie Rayo Vallecano received Real Madrid in an evenly matched game that wasn’t decided until the 83rd minute when Benzema scored the only goal of the game. Saturday games ended with Atletico de Madrid vs Celta de Vigo, and the team from the Spanish capital won with two goals from their left defender Renan Lodi 36’, 60’.
Perhaps the most intersting game of the Matchday, the Sevilla vs Real Betis had to be posponed until later today after Sevilla’s Joan Jordan was struck with an object thrown by the Betis fans. The game ended 2-1 for Sevilla with goals by Ivan Rakitic 24’ and Munir El Haddadi 41’, Sergio Canales 94’ scored for Betis. After this game Villareal beat Espanyol 5-1, 4 goals were scored by youngster Jeremy Pino 14’, 20’, 45’, 53’ and one by Boulaye Dia 86’, Keidi Bare 65’ scored for Betis.
The next game of the day saw Real Sociedad beat Osasuna just by one goal, scored by Aritz Elustondo 52’. The last game of Sunday was Barcelona vs Athletic Club, and the Cules played an amazing game winning 4-0 and the goals were scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 37’, Ousmane Dembele 73’, Luuk De Jong 90’ and Memphis 93’.
This is the updated table after Matchday 26, Real Madrid are still clear 6 points from Sevilla, Barcelona and Atletico are tied in points and are still fighting for that Champions League spot. There is still one game left that will be played tomorrow between Granada and Cadiz CF.
