MANCHESTER, England - It was the news many fans feared. After injuring his ACL in training, David Silva announced that he would be retiring at the age of 37. His retirement was yet another reminder of the end of a generation of incredible soccer players that many teenagers and young adults grew up watching. 

David Silva was perhaps one of the most magical attacking midfielders of his generation, earning the nicknames of El Mago and Merlin from fans. He will be immortalized for his style of play, which helped bring four Premier League titles to Manchester City and a World Cup title to Spain, along with a host of other trophies, to the clubs he played for.

In 536 games played in the Premier League and La Liga, David Silva racked up 91 goals and 146 assists. He may not have the most assists in the history of the Premier League, but his performances speak for themselves, earning the praise of numerous figures in the world of soccer.

Words simply cannot convey the incredible ability of Silva. He deserves a massive amount of praise and credit for the flair he brought to Manchester City, Real Sociedad and all the teams he played for throughout his career.
