Conmebol World Cup Qualifiers Recap: Match-day 16
Chile and Uruguay take a step forward, Colombia in big trouble, Peru and Ecuador share a point. There is only 2 more games left in the qualifiers and only 3 out of the last 5 mentioned national teams will be in the World Cup.
The day started full of goals when Bolivia played Chile and the game ended 3-2 for Chile, Alexis Sanchez scored the match winner. After that there was another game with 5 goals, as Uruguay beat Venezuela 4-1. The biggest game of the match day was Argentina vs Colombia. The game ended 1-0 for Argentina, Lautaro Martinez scored in the 29th minute. Colombia dropped points once again and they now are in a 7-game goalless streak.
Brazil played Paraguay and beat them 4-0, eliminating any chances for them to make the World Cup. The last game of the match day was Peru vs Ecuador. Ecuador took the lead early in the 2nd minute after a long ball found Michael Estrada and he put the ball in the back of the net. Peru came back in the 69th minute with a goal by Edison Flores and this didn’t let Ecuador secure their World Cup qualification. However, Ecuador has already secured a playoff qualifier spot at least, but Uruguay, Peru, Chile, and Colombia are still competing for the last 2 spots.
