Only nine months after the terrible heart attack suffered on the pitch at Euro 2020, Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen made his comeback with his national time on Saturday, in a friendly match against the Netherlands, scoring a goal just a few minutes after his entrance on the field.

Eriksen was sent in at the beginning of the second half, in the hope that his untouched class and technique might help Denmark comeback from the Netherlands’ 3-1 lead.

It took two minutes for Eriksen to leave his mark on the match, violently tapping into the top corner a low cross from inside the penalty area.

Only the post denied a second goal to Eriksen, leading the way for the Netherlands to a final 4-2 win.

"If you take away the result, I'm one happy man. To go through what I've been through, being back is a wonderful feeling," Eriksen declared in the post-match interviews.

The venue was a particular one for Eriksen: the Johann Cruyff Arena, where he established himself from being a young promising player to an actual superstar with Ajax.

The audience showcased all his appreciation for the player tributing him a well-deserved standing ovation, joined also by Dutch coach Louis Van Gaal.

The next match will probably come to represent an even more emotional moment for Eriksen, as Denmark will be back in actioon on Tuesday, for a friendly international against Serbia, at the Parken Stadium, in Copenaghen, where Erisken’s nightmare begun in his national team’s opening match against Finland.
