Carabao Cup Shake Up

Manchester United defeated Newcastle United in last season’s Carabao Cup Final at Wembley with a 2-0 scoreline. However, after both of these teams were matched up against each other in the Round of 16, the result was incredibly different.

Newcastle waltzed into Old Trafford and dominated from start to finish, a 3-0 win for Newcastle saw them get the revenge that they deserved after last year's final loss. Though Newcastle played extremely well with goals from Miguel Almirón, Lewis Hall, and Joe Willock, Manchester United beat themselves tactically and showed no desire to win the game.

Manchester United currently sit 8th in the Premier League with a 5-0-5 record, and sit 3rd in Group A of their Champions League group. After a tumultuous start to this season, Erik Ten Hag is under an enormous amount of pressure to turn things around at a rapid speed or this season could be lost in a hurry.

Erik Ten Hag has a mountain to climb if he wants to retain his spot as manager of Manchester United, but it just goes to show how getting third and winning the Carabao Cup in his first season in charge, to now being under the “hot seat” to keep his job just shows the amount of pressure that Manchester United is always under to produce results. Only time will tell if he and players such as Antony, the Red Devils $100 million signing, can get things going and turn this season around.

One thing is for sure, they are going to try to right the ship and keep pushing forward as a unit. United face off at Fulham this Saturday at 8:30 am.
