Bruno Fernandes: Properly Rated or Underrated?
Bruno Fernandes joined Manchester United in the winter of the 2019/20 Premier League season from Sporting Lisbon, for nearly $50 million. Since then, the Portuguese midfielder has been nothing short of incredible.
Breaking these records is something that has not been done in over a decade, with great midfielders also littered across the Premier League with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, and countless others. The most impressive record of them all however, is the fact that he holds the record for the most goals scored by a midfielder in the Premier League, 28 goals and 18 assists. All time for Manchester United, he has 153 goals and 123 assists.
Manchester United have yet to win a Premier League since 2012, which to most, is the best domestic trophy you can win in the world. Bruno has had his fair share of unfortunate circumstances, but “The Engine” himself has only missed 4 games in his entire Manchester United career, a stat that is widely overlooked. After all, the best ability is availability.
This season, however, has started relatively poor for United, with narrow victories versus inferior opponents such as Wolves and Nottingham Forest. They have also played against two “top six” clubs in Tottenham and Arsenal. Both of those fixtures being away losses.
Despite the lack of goals and overall attacking power, Bruno has provided chance after chance for the attackers of United and has been at the top of expected assists every single weekend. A true maestro in the midfield, no matter who receives the passes.
Another factor which makes Bruno so great is his ability to do it at every level. European Championship qualifiers have taken place over the last week or so, and Bruno has been firing on all cylinders for Portugal.
Not only has Bruno proved he is one of the best Premier League midfielders, he has proven time and time again that he is one of the best midfielders in all of football. That being said, it leaves you thinking, is he underrated or properly rated by fans?
