In 2017, Atlanta United FC joined Major League Soccer. When Atlanta joined the league, they were looking for a goalkeeper that would dominate the field. With this mindset Atlanta decided to go with Brad Guzan. Brad Guzan’s goalie techniques brings exceptional skills. These skills have saved Atlanta United from many potential goals. This is hints to Guzan’s nickname “Atlanta United’s Lifesaver”. Guzan is known for his saves which places him as one of the top goalies in MLS history.

Unfortunately, Guzan has injured himself for the 2022 season. This is upsetting news as he will be out for the entire season. If Guzan was able to continue to play this season, Atlanta United would have high chance of the MLS cup again. Guzan’s injury is a minor setback to team and Guzan. On the other hand, Atlanta United FC still has a chance of making it to the championship. As long as Atlanta keeps the concept of “United We Conquer”, they will be able to conquer the MLS cup for this season.

While Guzan is currently placed on a season-ending injury list due to a raptured Achilles tendon. His replacement for the rest of the season is Bobby Shuttleworth. Bobby is a Major League Soccer veteran so I am almost certain that he will hold Atlanta United down. However, there is a greater question that needs to ask. Will Guzan’s season replacement be able to hold the title of the “Life Saver” for him?
