Ted Lasso, Apple TV’s hit show about an American Football coach going to England to Manage a Premier League club, has just agreed to a deal with the real life Premier League for a licensing deal worth as much as £500,000. According to Matt Slater of the Athletic,  This deal would include usage of “archive footage, the Premier League logos, club kits, and even the league trophy”.

The show originally faced much criticism for the general idea behind the show, people were worried it would make a mockery of the sport, but now being well into a second season, Ted Lasso, early on and continues to cement itself as one of the best streaming shows out there. Winning multiple awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Emmy Awards, Ted Lasso has won over the hearts of people everywhere, including Premier League Executives.

This deal will mean references to real Premier League teams and players, not just passing references either, for example, several individuals including Arlo White and Mike Dean have both made appearances in the show to varying degrees.

The show’s continued success is what got the Premier League Executives to sign this deal with the show. The season finale of Ted Lasso airs this Friday October 8th. The third season will start production in January 2022, and will air later in the year.

It is a fantastic opportunity to show both clubs and players on a whole new stage, we may even get some famous footballer cameos in the next few seasons.
