Cholo Simeone’s side received same city rivals Getafe in a game full of drama since the first game minutes. The madness started in the 8th minute after Luis Suarez missed the first penalty kick of the night. However, the Colchoneros reacted quickly, as Angel Correa found a loose ball in the 6-yard box to put it in the back of the net in the 20th minute. Only seven minutes later, after a great team link-up play, Matheus Cunha scored to double the advantage of the home team.

Getafe didn’t give up after Atletico’s lead and they kept fighting bak and generating scoring chances. Borja Mayoral scored one from close range in the 30th minute, and seven minutes later a penalty kick against Atletico is called and Enes Unal tied the game from the penalty spot. Before the first half was done, another penalty kick was called and again, Enes Unal netted an identical kick to put Getafe ahead. However, in the added time of the first half Angel Correa scored again, tying the game back with 45 minutes to go. The hectic game pace slowed down in the second half after Atletico’s defender Felipe Monteiro saw a red card after a dangerous tackle against Mayoral. Despite being a man down, in the final minutes of regular time, Mario Hermoso scored an acrobatic winner, to seal the comeback and keep the 3 points at home.
