Arsenal injury update
Arsenal is still atop of the Premier League, but the injury bug has started to hit the club. After being able to sustain the period where lead striker Gabriel Jesus was absent due to a leg injury they have been dealt a few more injuries.
Japanese right back Takehiro Tomiyasu has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Tomiyasu left the emirates on crutches after the game against Sporting CP. He had a successful surgery, but this ruled him out for the season. Ben White has filled the role of the starting right back this season but losing any cover and depth to the squad can cause major problems in the long term for a title run.
Tomiyasu was not the only one who got hurt in the game against Sporting CP. Breakout star William Saliba also had to leave the game early due to injury. Saliba’s diagnosis has not been as clear. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal manager, said, “We hope Willy [Saliba] is going to be better news," Arteta said on Sunday. "Again, we have to wait tomorrow to get a better picture." If Saliba is out for more than a few games it would be crucial to the hopes of Arsenal’s title challenge. Saliba who has been Arsenal's best defender and a likely team of the season candidate needs to come back for the Gooners.
Arsenal also has injuries to two other key players Mohamed Elneny and Eddie Nektiah. Both will still be out for the upcoming future. There is no update on Elneny, but Eddie Nketiah is a few weeks out from training again and is currently in a protective boot.
