After spending 23 years outside of the first division, Nottingham Forrest are finally back in the Premier League. Following a penalty shootout victory in the Playoff Semi-Final, Nottingham Forrest secured a 1-0 win against Huddersfield Town to regain their Premier League status. The goal came courtesy of an own goal from Huddersfield defender Levi Colwill in the 43rd minute, however I guarantee no Forrest fan or player cares how it happened.

Along with the own goal, there was the usual video assisted replay controversy. After Huddersfield forward Harry Toffolo went down inside the penalty box, referee John Moss decided Toffolo dove and gave him a yellow card. The decision went to VAR and based on the replays it seemed as though Toffolo was brought down. While it may not have been enough for a penalty, a yellow card was undoubtedly a harsh decision. VAR did not change the initial call and the game finished 1-0.

This win capped off a very improbable season for Nottingham Forrest. After getting just one point from their first seven games, Forrest sat bottom of the Championship in September. This prompted a managerial change as Steve Cooper was appointed as manager. With the help of Cooper, Forrest was able to turn their season around and return to Premier League glory.

Whether or not Nottingham Forrest will be able to have an extended run in the Premier League remains to be seen. As they are a club with such a rich history it is surprising it has taken them this long to return to the top flight. Prior to their relegation in 1999, Forrest was a very successful club. Their trophy cabinet contains: one top flight league title, two FA Cups, four League Cups, two European Cups, and one UEFA Super cup. This type of success is hard for even massive clubs who have been in the Premier League for decades to achieve (I’m talking about you Tottenham Hotspur) and clubs with these trophies belong in the Premier League.

Joining Bournemouth and Fulham in the Premier League, time will tell what types of signings these clubs make this summer with the added budget of a Premier League side.
