WASHINGTON D.C. – The Washington Capitals announced via Twitter that they would be re-signing center Dylan Strome to a five-year contract extension worth $5-million annually.

Strome is in his first season with the Capitals, having initially signed with them on July 14, 2022. Strome was formerly a Chicago Blackhawk, but was released to free agency on July 12, 2022. Since signing, Strome has been an incredible addition to the lineup, earning him a spot on the first line alongside Washington’s captain Alex Ovechkin, and left-winger Connor Sheary.

The 2022-23 season marks Strome’s eighth season in the NHL, and thus far he has tallied 78 goals and 128 assists for a total of 206 career points. This season, Strome has 36 points (11 goals and 25 assists) which ranks him second on the Capitals in assists and third in overall points. Furthermore, Strome ranks third in power play goals with an impressive 14 power play goals this season. Strome’s current stats put him on pace for a career high of 50 points.

The Capitals are currently fourth in the Metropolitan division, which can largely be attributed to Strome. While Strome is now playing on the first line, he has moved around quite a bit in the lineups. Strome continuously performed well no matter where he was on the lineup, demonstrating his ability to quickly adapt to playing with different teammates. Furthermore, coming into this season without veteran center Nicklas Backstrom, Strome proved himself to be the offensive powerhouse the Capitals needed to persist without their usual players.
