Wade Allison: A Shocking Blow

On Saturday morning, news broke that Flyers right winger Wade Allison was placed on waivers. This was disappointing to hear because Allison was a player who did all of the right things and seemed to be there at the right time. He was fast with his puck and stick and his passion bled through every time he stepped on that ice. He got a little too aggressive at some points, but that’s why he quickly became a fan favorite.

We can all guess by now the reason he was put on waivers —injuries. Out of 82 games last season, he only played 60. This has improved in past years, when he also missed numerous games due to injury. This was actually the first season in his career that he made it to 60 games. This looks like an improvement, but not in the eyes of General Manager Danny Briere and Head Coach John Tortorella. Tortorella made comments in a press conference last year that he thought Wade Allison was one the best players he had on his team, it’s just his injuries that are what’s keeping him from hitting his full potential. Can he use this time to prove himself to Tortorella and Briere? Only time will tell.
