The New York Rangers Sweep the Washington Capitals in Round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs

The New York Rangers had one of the best regular seasons in franchise history and they have now shifted their momentum to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. On Sunday Apr. 28, the Rangers were heading into Game 4 against the Washington Capitals with a 3-0 lead in the series. Later that night they punched their ticket to the second round of the playoffs as they defeated the Caps 4-2 and swept the series 4-0.

As the Rangers are the first team to make it past the first round, they have time to rest and gather themselves to play against the winner of the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders series. This will be a bigger testament to overcome as the Capitals were not a playoff ready team or a team that should have even been in the playoffs. One thing that is for sure is that the Rangers didn’t repeat last year’s history when they loss to the New Jersey Devils in the first round of the 2023 playoffs.

Many people are questioning whether this is the Rangers year or if they will face another upset coming off a great regular season. Will the President Trophy winners turn into Stanley Cup champions, or will they come up short again?
