The Metropolitan Division All Stars
With the rosters set for the 2024 NHL All Star game, it is expected to be a good one with the amount of talent from both sides. The Metropolitan division all stars are Sebastian Aho, Boone Jenner, Jack Hughes, Mathew Barzal, Igor Shesterkin, Travis Konecny, Sidney Crosby, and Tom Wilson.
Starting off strong with, Sebastian Aho of the Carolina Hurricanes, who has been having an amazing season so far and is always fun to watch. The star center has recorded 15 goals and 33 assists to put him at 48 points in 40 games this season. For the third time in his NHL career, he has been named an All-Star. In an interview he said, “I guess you’ve done something right if you get the call to go to the All-Star game. It’s always fun to go there with the best players competing.”
Next up is the Columbus Blue Jackets’ Boone Jenner who will be making his first All Star appearance this year. Jenner is currently playing in his 11th season with the Blue Jackets. So far this season, Jenner has 13 goals and 5 assists, which puts him at 18 points in 29 games played. He has played a major role in the Blue Jackets’ first ever playoff series win, which was a four-game sweep against the Tampa Bay Lightning back in 2015-16.
There is no introduction needed for the New Jersey Devils star, Jack Hughes. He has been playing exceptional hockey and has also become a key piece in the offense for the Devils. Unfortunately, he has been dealing with an upper body injury and has not been in the lineup for the Devils. Furthermore, he is not expected to be playing in the All-Star game.
Not only is he an NHL All-Star, but he is the star of the New York Islanders. Mathew Barzal will be making his third All-Star appearance this year. The 2022 Vezina Trophy winner has been selected to represent the Rangers for the second year in the row. Igor Shesterkin was selected to his first NHL All-Star game in 2023, which made him the seventh goaltender in Rangers history to be an All-Star. This season he has played 28 games and has won 18 of them. He currently has 2.80 goals against average and .904 save percentage.
The Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny will be an NHL All-Star for the second time in his career. Konecny has been one of the leading guys for the Flyers’ this season. With 21 goals and 19 assists in 45 games, he will be a great asset for the Metro lineup. In his rookie season, he had 28 points in 70 games, which is the second most set by a Flyers rookie forward.
The Pittsburg Penguins most prestige player and captain, Sidney Crosby, is no amateur when it comes to NHL All Star weekends. Crosby will be playing in his 10th career NHL All-Star game. Even though he is playing in his 19th season with the NHL, he’s still putting up legendary numbers for the Penguins. With 26 goals and 20 assists, he has 46 points in 42 games on the season so far. He is on track to tie his goal scoring record in a season, which was back in 2009-10 where he scored 51 goals. He is going to bring a great veteran presence to the Metro division team.
For the second time in his career, Capitals winger Tom Wilson has been named an NHL All-Star. Aside from this upcoming All-Star game, he was selected back in 2022 for his first. He currently has 12 goals and 8 assists, which puts him at 20 points in 42 games played this season. Even though he isn’t a big scorer, he still makes his presence known on the ice and played a key role in helping the Washington Capitals win their first Stanley Cup in their history.
