Ovechkin sets The NHL Record For Most Goals With One Team
During Saturday night’s game, Alex Ovechkin set the NHL record for most goals scored with one team, scoring his 787th career goal with the Washington Capitals, breaking the tie with Hall of Former Gordie Howe’s career total with the Detroit Red Wings.
The record-breaking goal was made on home ice in a 3-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes.
In Thursday night’s game in Detroit, during the second period, Ovechkin tied Howe for the most goals for one team in the same city where Mr. Hockey had become an all-time great.
Howe had held the record for most goals with one team since 1971, when he surpassed 786 goals with the Detroit Red Wings over the span of 25 seasons.
That’s not the only record that Ovechkin broke this week, though. During Saturday night’s game, he passed Adam Oates for 19th all-time on the NHL’s points leaders list.
