One Win Left
Las Vegas, NV. – Almost five years later to the day, the Vegas Golden Knights are in the Stanley Cup Finals again after their 2018 loss to the Washington Capitals. Not only that, but the team is currently one win away from hoisting arguably the greatest trophy in all of professional sports.
The revamped Vegas roster has included a complete mix of newcomers, trade deadline acquisitions, and those who have been there since the very beginning of 2017-18. To name a few, standout goaltender Adin Hill and stars Chandler Stephenson, Jack Eichel, and captain Mark Stone have propelled this team to the final piece of the Stanley Cup puzzle. The Golden Knights battled through the regular season and ended with 51 wins, 111 total points, first place in the Western Conference, and fifth place in the entire NHL. This success continued in the postseason by conquering the Winnipeg Jets in five games, Edmonton Oilers in six, Dallas Stars in six, and now leading the Florida Panthers 3-1.
Fresh off of their game four 3-2 win against the Panthers, the Knights now have a rare opportunity, one that only comes around for two teams each season. They can lift the Stanley Cup, a feat that they have yet to accomplish in their short history, despite coming close in the inaugural season. Game five on Tuesday will be an extreme test for the players, coaches, and executives. The Vegas Golden Knights have the entire city of Las Vegas backing them, as well as many fans whose teams were eliminated or did not make the postseason at all. As one of the NHL’s most entertaining teams, on and off the ice, it is quite easy to hop on the bandwagon. While not a Cinderella story by any means because of dominant play this season, the Vegas Golden Knights winning the Stanley Cup at T-Mobile Arena Tuesday night would be a story for the history books.
